Offensive counterintelligence as a suitable disrupter to counteract Russian foreign intelligence

The activities developed by the intelligence services are aimed at providing information, analyzing it, preparing intelligence products and disseminating them to political decision-makers, to support decision-making in the face of threats, risks and opportunities. On the other hand, the counterintelligence operations, as a specialized intelligence discipline, have a double dimension: the offensive counterintelligence, aimed at the penetrating of the adversary services and using the double agent figure; and the defensive counterintelligence, leading to the identification of designated service officials, the knowledge of the methods used and the identification of their sources of information. In this essay we will delve into the origin and meaning of counterintelligence operations, aimed at fighting counterinformation, espionage and countersubversion, and how to enhance the counterintelligence analysis using the structured analysis techniques.
