About the Journal
FOCUS AND SCOPE
The Journal of the Spanish Institute of Strategic Studies is publishing original and unpublished articles, in which a matter concerning the field of research into security and defence is analysed.
Due to the scientific nature and academic vocation of our journal, we put special emphasis on the rigour of the research proposed for publication. The originality and topicality of the articles will be inescapable requirements as well as the strict fulfilment of instructions by the authors.
On the other hand, each issue includes reviews of recent works which are of interest in the sphere of security and defence.

PEER REVIEW PROCESS
With the purpose of accrediting that the texts received for publication in our journal are in line with the criteria, requirements and scientific rules, they will be subjected to external review. During this process, each original will be evaluated by DOUBLE BLIND PAIRS not connected with the Spanish Institute of Strategic Studies, selected from outstanding figures in the area of research and study corresponding to each article.
When there is a disagreement between the two evaluators assigned to review an original, the opinion of a third expert will be requested.
The peers should complete the form created for this purpose, on which their decision to accept the article will be made clear by the corresponding box being marked; they may accept it with explicit modifications requested from the authors; they may also return the text to the authors to be rewritten and evaluated again, or definitively rejected.
The modifications or suggestions included in the referees' report will be sent to the authors, accompanied by reasons, sent by the journal's Editorial Board; so that, if applicable, they can be incorporated into the article.
When the two evaluations agree in deciding against publication of the revised text, it will be returned to the authors, who will also be informed of the decision of their peers with their reasons.
The rules of the journal, which are at the disposal of authors on this same web page, will be the fundamental criterion which must be borne in mind in the process of external review as well as the standard requirements set down by the scientific community for this area of research.
The external review of originals will take place within the space of four weeks, to be counted from the reception of the articles by the referees.
Once the report has been communicated to the authors, they will have a period of 15 days so that, if applicable, they can include the suggested modifications or suggestions.
